Q: What are the risks of asbestos exposure?

If materials containing asbestos becomes damaged, asbestos fibers may become airborne and inhaled. Inhaling large amounts of asbestos fibers may cause asbestosis (lung scarring that inhibits breathing), mesothelioma (cancer of chest lining or abdominal activity) and lung cancer.

We are focusing on Southern Ontario and the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

Q: Can I detect asbestos on my own?

The only way to visually confirm the presence of asbestos is if materials that contain it are labeled as such; otherwise, you can not be sure. This is why it is important to contact us immediately so that we can perform a survey of your property to determine whether or not asbestos is present.

Q: Why do we need an asbestos survey?

If you are responsible for managing the maintenance and repair of a building, you must manage any asbestos in it. As well as protecting people from exposure to asbestos fibres, you have legal duty to manage asbestos according to Ontario Regulation 278/05.

Q: What if I don’t bother having an asbestos survey carried out?

If you are the property owner you are liable to prosecution if you do not have an Asbestos Risk assessment. Failure to comply with the asbestos regulations may also mean that a prohibition notice is placed on your buildings – effectively closing you down until your property is confirmed safe.

Q: Will I be able to understand the asbestos report?

Yes, all our asbestos reports are written with the home owner/building manager in mind. We use plain English to ensure that you are fully aware of any hazardous material on site and what the appropriate steps are to take. If there’s anything in the asbestos report that you’re not sure about just ask, we’ll be happy to explain.
